Tourist spots 'six metre-long' creature in Loch Ness

A German tourist has reported a sighting of a creature approximately six meters long in Loch Ness, reigniting interest in the legendary Loch Ness Monster, commonly referred to as Nessie. Felix Tiekemeier, who was visiting the iconic Scottish landmark on August 21, claims to have seen a large black shape moving through the water, visible from a distance of around 300 meters.

Tiekemeier's sighting was officially recorded by the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, which noted that he observed the creature at 11:58 AM. According to the report, the object surfaced and remained visible for about 20 seconds before disappearing. Tiekemeier described the creature as swimming close to the surface and suggested that it appeared to have a head.

He managed to capture a photograph of the mysterious shape from the shore, which reportedly shows a dark form in the water. This sighting marks the 14th reported observation of Nessie in 2026, a year that has seen a notable increase in claims of sightings compared to previous years. In fact, the number of sightings this year has already surpassed the total recorded in 2025, which stood at 10.

Notably, in 2023, a tourist named Sash Lake from Wiltshire described encountering a "huge black mass or hump" in the loch, estimating it to be roughly the size of a double-decker bus. Lake's sighting occurred on October 7, 2023, while he was traveling through Drumnadrochit, and he expressed confusion and disbelief at what he observed.
