'7 metre long creature moving against the current' is one of two new Loch Ness Monster sightings

A recent report from the Inverness Courier details two new sightings of the elusive Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as Nessie. These encounters have been added to the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, which now lists a total of 15 sightings for the year 2026.

The first sighting occurred on the evening of August 5, when Norbert Kawka, a tourist from Spain, claimed to have seen a mysterious creature near Fort Augustus at approximately 8:50 PM. According to a spokesperson for the Official Sightings Register, Kawka described the creature as moving against the current and likened its appearance to that of a very large eel. The weather during the sighting was reported to be foggy with light rain, and the water conditions were calm with no wind. Kawka estimated the creature's length to be at least seven meters and noted that it caused significant disturbance on the water's surface, despite the absence of any nearby boats.

The second sighting took place the following day, August 6, at around 1 PM. Jocelyn Boyce, who was visiting from Barcelona, reported observing a 'dark mound' in the water while at Urquhart Castle. She described the object as having a dark, almost black, mound-like shape that protruded above the surface of the loch. Boyce stated that she was at a viewpoint overlooking Loch Ness with her family when she made the observation, estimating that the object was approximately half a mile away. The water appeared calm, and visibility was generally good at the time of the sighting. Boyce managed to capture about 13 seconds of video footage using her iPhone 16, employing the device's zoom feature to record the distant object. In one of her photographs, the dark mound-like shape is visible above the water, while in another taken moments later, the object had disappeared from view.

These latest sightings add to the long history of reported encounters with Nessie, a creature that has fascinated both locals and tourists for decades. The Loch Ness Monster has become a significant part of Scottish folklore, drawing visitors from around the world who hope to catch a glimpse of the legendary beast. Despite numerous investigations and searches over the years, definitive evidence of Nessie's existence remains elusive.
